'NEW RULES’ in GD&T [per ASME Y14.5-2009] is based on the ASME Y14.5-2009
Dimensioning and Tolerancing Standard.
This 160-page book reflects new symbology, rules and basic principle
revisions that took the Y14.5 committee almost 15 years to complete. It
shows how to interpret design drawings and CAD representations of product
definitions that use the items that have changed from the ASME Y14.5M-1994
to ASME Y14.5-2009 Standard. It also explains each rule and symbol change
and shows how to apply and interpret the new Y14.5 practices that will allow
dimensioning and tolerancing professionals to express their design
requirements more clearly. The results of these changes are that: product
representations are able to be more specific in conveying tolerancing needs,
products can be more easily manufactured, and appropriate inspection
techniques are clarified.
This ‘NEW RULES’ in GD&T [per ASME Y14.5-2009] textbook and
workbook/answerbook was written to highlight the revised concepts covered in
ASME Y14.5-2009 as well as to explain some of the more difficult and
advanced concepts allowed by, but perhaps not thoroughly explained, in the
previous Y14.5 standard. This book is not meant to replace the 574 page
textbook by James D. Meadows entitled
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
- Applications, Analysis & Measurement [per ASME Y14.5-2009] but, instead,
to showcase only the topics and symbology that have changed from Y14.5-1994
toY14.5-2009.
