Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Professional Certification
The American Society of
Mechanical Engineers (ASME), in recognition of the needs & benefits
associated with standard qualifications for professionals using the
Dimensioning and Tolerancing ASME Y14.5M standard, established a
certification program for Certification of Geometric Dimensioning and
Tolerancing Professionals (GDTP). The certification program provides the
means to recognize proficiency in the understanding and application of
the geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principles expressed in
Y14.5.
There are two levels of
certification. The first level, Senior GDTP,
provides the additional measure of an individual’s ability to select
proper geometric controls as well as to properly apply them to drawings.
The second level, Technologist GDTP, provides an objective measure of an individual’s
ability to understand drawings that have been prepared using the
language of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, as defined in the
ASME Y14.5 standard.

ASME NATIONAL STANDARDS MEETINGS (Dimensioning
and Tolerancing)
The ASME Y14.5 (Geometric Dimensioning
and Tolerancing) Subcommittee generally meets two times a year at various hotel
locations throughout the United States. The Y14.5 Main Committee and other
Y14 Subcommittees generally meet concurrently during the same week. These
meetings are open to the public.
